About Corey Chan

As a Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) in Vancouver BC, I am passionate about mental health and wellness. As a person who values the incredible power of listening and living a balanced life, becoming a professional counsellor was a natural fit. I am dedicated to helping my clients address their concerns, feel happier and have more confidence.

In order to do this important work, I received extensive clinical training in Counselling Psychology at Simon Fraser University. In addition to my education, my clinical work at the Surrey Counselling Clinic and in the Student Health Services Department at Langara College has given me experience in providing a wide range of mental health services to adults of all ages.

Most importantly, volunteering at the Crisis Line and working in community based agencies and non-profit settings have shown me the importance of providing accessible and affordable mental health services to my community.

My counselling approach

I am dedicated to helping you address your concerns and issues and focus on what’s important to you. We do this on your terms and at your pace. Through an effective, non-judgemental, therapeutic relationship, I help you examine the different areas of your life and help you make practical and meaningful changes.

Come as you are

Everyone is unique, therefore our struggles, issues and concerns are unique as well. I respect and honour your individual perspective and the context surrounding your life. Whether your concerns are big or small, or you aren’t even sure what the problem is, I can help you find clarity and balance.

You know you’re right

You know yourself better than anyone else. In our counselling work together, you are the expert in your own life. Together, we see what is working for you and what is not and help you make meaningful and lasting changes.

Something in the way

I believe that counselling should be affordable and accessible to everyone. I offer competitive rates for my services and reduced rates to individuals who cannot afford the standard fees. My services include flexible evenings and weekend appointments and online video counselling.

Foundation of my approach

Depending on your concerns, goals, and needs, I utilize a variety of clinical approaches and techniques to assist you.

Non-judgemental. Empathy. Trust.

The focus of person-centred therapy is always on you and not on any diagnosis or categorization. As a Clinical Counsellor, I provide a climate conducive to personal growth and change. Through empathy and trust, our relationship will be productive, genuine, and non-judgemental. Together, we explore your thoughts and feelings, positive or negative, without the risk of rejection or judgement.

It’s all in your head

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on the way you think (cognitive) and act (behavioural). CBT helps you to identify the relationship between your thoughts and your feelings. By making small changes to the way you think, you can ultimately change the way you feel.

Building on your strengths

A key component to solution focused therapy is helping you identify your strengths, resources and problem-solving skills. Together we can discover solutions that build on what you are already good at. We will utilize your existing strengths and skills as a basis for problem-solving and growth.
